This document provides basic information about why pathogen control and vector attraction reduction in sewage sludge are essential for the protection of public health and the environment. This document provides background information to many different aspects of sewage sludge treatments and the potential pathogens associated with these materials. This document provides the user updated information on pathogen treatment and monitoring as well as vector attraction reduction options related to treatment and subsequent land application of biosolids. This updated version published in 2023 improves flow, removes redundancies and contains updates to clarify pathogen Alternatives 3 and 4 for Class A sewage sludge.
